While hiring a team of professionals like ours will help you move more efficiently, you must anticipate the movers’ arrival and prepare at least a little if you want everything to go smoothly.
Here, we’re sharing some of the most frequently asked questions you may have before your move. However, don’t hesitate to contact us if you’d like to learn more!
Prepare your moving well
The first steps of preparation:
Remember to prepare before the move begins: clean your home, scan important documents, make a list of items to be moved, rent a storage space, inform your company, find someone to look after your pet on moving day.
Remember to change your landline and internet subscriptions, notify your electricity provider of your move, change your gym membership or find a new one, notify your children’s school, and inform your bank of your change of address.
Get moving boxes, get the necessary tape, lifting straps, etc.
Sell items you no longer need before the move, empty your refrigerator, carefully pack the goods to be transported, etc.
Remember to check your current rentals with the various agencies, notify you’re for a little help on D-Day, do a complete home inspection.
Get up early to be fully prepared, leave your key with the new owners/tenants.
Take a walk around the neighborhood!:
Once you’re settled into your new neighborhood, take a walk around to map out your space, discover the shops, and meet the first people! Everyone will be happy to be able to put a face to the new neighbor you are.
Follow the steps on a calendar so you don’t forget anything:
One or two months before moving day?
- Choose a moving date
- Choose your mover carefully
- Request time off from your employer
- Notify your change of address if you’re moving residentially
- Carry out an initial sort
- Prepare your boxes
Three to four weeks before the move?
- Take inventory of your belongings
- Get boxes
- Pack your belongings
- Book childcare if necessary
- Prepare for transporting pets
One to two weeks before the move?
- Gather the right tools
A few days before the move?
- Finish packing your belongings
- Prepare your belongings for the new home
- Buy food for the first meals there
D-Day?
- Be in shape!
- Be ready for the movers’ arrival
- Involve the kids
What about boxes?
The key here is preparation. Be methodical when packing your boxes by sorting your belongings logically. Don’t mix towels with items that will go in the garage to save precious time when packing!
